Part IV: Financial Fraud · Chip, Cash & Ticket Fraud

Player Tracking Point Manipulation

Player Card / Comp FraudSkill: Intermediate

How it works

Casino employees with access to loyalty program systems inflate point balances for their own accounts or for accomplices’ accounts. Points are then redeemed for complimentary rooms, meals, show tickets, gift cards, or cashback. In one documented case, casino employees created dozens of fake accounts and entered false transaction data to credit millions of points, which were redeemed for cash and high-value rewards over several months. The fraud exploits the internal trust placed in employees who administer loyalty systems.

On the record

The 2011 Nevada Gaming Control Board warning to casinos about player card fraud highlighted growing cases of hackers targeting customer databases to steal points. The AGA identified player club points as a significant vulnerability requiring protection.
