Scam #8: Toke (Tip) Theft and Manipulation

How it works

Dealers may steal from their own toke (tip) boxes or manipulate toke bets for personal gain. Common methods include: pocketing toke chips instead of dropping them in the toke box; manipulating toke bets so they lose (converting winning toke bets to the house tray instead of the toke box); claiming other dealers’ tokes; and swapping toke chips for lower denominations before dropping them. One sophisticated technique involves a dealer collecting several small-denomination toke chips, exchanging them for a single higher-denomination chip from the main tray, then dropping the higher chip in the toke box while pocketing the difference. The quick, fluid motion appears normal to surveillance.
