1.16 Cotai Strip

Macau — Geography/Development

The Cotai Strip is a 5.2-square-kilometer strip of reclaimed land between the islands of Taipa and Coloane in Macau, developed specifically for integrated resort and casino construction. The name combines “Co” from Coloane and “Tai” from Taipa. Sheldon Adelson coined the term, modeling it after the Las Vegas Strip. Cotai is now home to nine major integrated resorts and has surpassed the Macau Peninsula as the primary gaming and tourism destination. The area was created through massive land reclamation and represents the most valuable casino real estate in the world.

Cotai’s development transformed Macau from a gambling destination to a true integrated resort market, with world-class entertainment, shopping, convention facilities, and non-gaming attractions.
