7.16 Lawrence Ho

Historical — Industry Figure

Lawrence Ho (born 1976) is the founder and chairman of Melco Resorts & Entertainment, one of Macau’s six gaming concessionaires. The son of Stanley Ho, Lawrence Ho established Melco as an independent entity from his father’s SJM Holdings, entering Macau through a sub-concession from Wynn Resorts in 2006. Ho has been a pioneer in expanding integrated resort development across Asia, with operations in Macau, the Philippines (City of Dreams Manila), and Cyprus. He has been a top-ranked figure on the Asian Gaming Power 50 list.

In practice

Lawrence Ho’s success in building Melco demonstrated that a new generation of Asian gaming entrepreneurs could compete with established Western operators. His expansion beyond Macau into the Philippines and Europe represents a diversification strategy different from his father’s Macau-centric approach.
