7.2 Flamingo Hotel and Casino

Historical — Property

The Flamingo Hotel and Casino, opened December 26, 1946 by Bugsy Siegel, was the first luxury resort on the Las Vegas Strip and the template for all future integrated resorts. Located on what would become Las Vegas Boulevard, the Flamingo featured a casino, hotel rooms, gourmet restaurants, a swimming pool, and big-name entertainment — amenities unprecedented in desert gambling establishments. Despite Siegel’s assassination in 1947, the Flamingo proved profitable under mob management and established the model of gambling revenue subsidizing luxury amenities that define the Las Vegas industry.

In practice

The Flamingo still operates today (as The Flamingo Las Vegas, part of Caesars Entertainment) and remains on its original site, making it the oldest continuously operating casino on the Las Vegas Strip.
