Countermeasures
The process of confirming that gaming chips presented at tables or the cage are genuine and have not been counterfeited, altered, or stolen. Chip verification methods include visual inspection of security features (holograms, UV markings, edge spots), weighing, and automated authentication using RFID readers. At smart tables, RFID-enabled chips are verified automatically in real time as they are wagered and collected.
In practice
Casinos periodically update chip designs and retire old chips to stay ahead of counterfeiting efforts; RFID technology has dramatically reduced the incidence of successful chip counterfeiting.
