Dealer / Shift Terminology

A shift scheduling term referring to the practice of allowing a dealer to leave work early (typically 20 minutes before their scheduled end time) without penalty, based on staffing needs or seniority. Dealers who receive the last break before their shift ends are considered to have gotten an “early out.” The allocation of early outs is a significant morale and scheduling issue in dealer operations.

In practice

The procedure for granting early outs varies by property and union contract. In unionized properties, early out assignments may be governed by seniority rules.
