Neighbors (and the Neighbors)

Roulette

A called bet covering a selected number plus the two numbers immediately adjacent to it on each side on the roulette wheel (for a total of five numbers), or more broadly, any number plus a specified number of adjacent wheel neighbors. For example, “0 and the neighbors” covers 3, 26, 0, 32, and 15. Players may request different numbers of neighbors; “one neighbor” covers three numbers (the center number plus one on each side), while “two neighbors” covers five numbers, and so on. The standard neighbors bet with two neighbors on each side requires five chips, each placed straight-up on the five numbers. This is one of the most flexible called bets, as the player can choose any number on the wheel as the center point.

In practice

In high-action games, dealers must be able to quickly identify the correct neighbors for any given number based on the wheel sequence. Neighbors bets are frequently used by advantage players attempting to exploit perceived wheel biases.
