A called bet covering the 12 numbers that lie on the opposite side of the European roulette wheel from zero, specifically the numbers 27, 13, 36, 11, 30, 8, 23, 10, 5, 24, 16, and 33. This section represents approximately one-third of the wheel. The bet requires six chips, each placed on one of six splits: 5-8, 10-11, 13-16, 23-24, 27-30, and 33-36. A winning Tiers bet pays 17:1. In British casinos, the Tiers bet is by far the most popular called bet, outnumbering Voisins and Orphelins bets by a significant margin. A variant called “Tiers 5-8-10-11” adds four additional straight-up chips for a total of ten chips.

In practice

Also known as the “small series” and in some South African casinos as “series 5-8.” Surveillance should be aware that players consistently betting Tiers may be attempting to exploit perceived wheel biases in that sector.
