Ways to Win
Slot Mechanics
An alternative to traditional paylines in which winning combinations are formed by matching symbols on adjacent reels from left to right, regardless of their vertical position on each reel. The total number of ways is calculated by multiplying the number of symbol positions on each reel. A standard 5-reel, 3-row game has 3^5 = 243 ways to win. Games with variable reel heights (such as Megaways) can have up to 117,649 or more ways. The “ways to win” format simplifies gameplay by eliminating the need for players to track specific payline patterns — any left-to-right adjacent combination pays.
In practice
“Ways to win” games typically require all ways to be active at a fixed cost, simplifying bet structure compared to selectable-payline games.
