Armed Cage Robbery — Firearm

How it works

One or more armed individuals enter the casino, approach the cage, display firearms, and demand cash and/or chips. These robberies are typically fast (under 2 minutes) and rely on speed and intimidation rather than sophistication. In March 2005, two masked men held up the Mandalay Bay change booth at gunpoint during crowded afternoon hours, firing what appeared to be blanks or a starter pistol before escaping in a waiting vehicle. In November 2022, the Gold Coast Casino cage in Las Vegas was robbed by a man who demanded money and fled.

Jose Vigoa’s crew robbed multiple Las Vegas casino cages (MGM Grand, Mandalay Bay, Bellagio, Desert Inn) in 2000-2002 using military tactics and body armor. Vigoa received four life sentences. The 2000 Bellagio cage robbery led to installation of bars around all MGM cage counters.
