Scam #20: Hard Count / Coin Room Theft

How it works

Hard count personnel (responsible for counting coins and tokens from slot machines) can manipulate weigh scales, miscount coin buckets, or steal during the counting process. Methods include: manipulating weigh scale calibration modules to under-report counts; substituting counted coins; stealing coin buckets before they reach the count room; falsifying weigh scale readings or interfaces; and altering count documentation. Scale calibration modules that are inadequately secured can be accessed and manipulated by count personnel to systematically under-report coin totals.
