Star Entertainment Group is one of Australia’s two major casino operators (alongside Crown Resorts), operating The Star Sydney, The Star Gold Coast, and Treasury Brisbane. Like Crown, Star has faced regulatory scrutiny over money laundering compliance and relationships with Asian junket operators. In 2022, the NSW Independent Casino Commission (NICC) found Star unsuitable to hold its Sydney casino license following an inquiry that revealed serious compliance failures. Star has been working under enhanced regulatory oversight to remediate its operations.
