Monetary Instrument Log (MIL) / Negotiable Instrument Log (NIL)
AML/CFT
A log maintained by casinos to record the purchase or cashing of monetary instruments, including traveler’s checks, money orders, cashier’s checks, and bank drafts, in amounts between $3,000 and $10,000. While these instruments are not reportable on CTRs (unless aggregated with other transactions exceeding $10,000), they must be logged to assist in detecting structured transactions and potential money laundering activity. MILs/NILs must be retained for at least five years and are subject to review during independent audits and regulatory examinations.
