Outside Numbers

Craps

Place bets on the numbers 4, 5, 9, and 10, as distinguished from the “inside numbers” (6 and 8). The term refers to these numbers’ position on the layout relative to the center. Outside number place bets have less favorable payout ratios and higher house edges than inside number place bets: place bets on 4 and 10 pay 9:5 (6.67% house edge), place bets on 5 and 9 pay 7:5 (4.00% house edge), while place bets on 6 and 8 pay 7:6 (1.52% house edge). Experienced players typically concentrate their place bets on the inside numbers.
