Obscure but traditional dealer slang for the number 7. Like many terms for seven, it exists so that dealers and players can refer to the number without actually saying “seven” at the table, which is considered bad luck by superstitious players. Other slang terms for seven include “Big Red” (referencing the red coloring on some layouts), “lady” (less common), and simply “it.” The prohibition against saying “seven” is one of the most deeply ingrained superstitions in casino gambling culture and is respected even by professional dealers who may not personally believe in it.
