An inside bet placed directly on a single number on the betting layout. If that number wins, the bet pays 35:1. This is the highest-paying standard bet in roulette and the only bet that pays on zero (and double zero). The house edge is 2.70% on European roulette and 5.26% on American roulette. In French roulette, this bet is called “En Plein.” Straight-up bets on zero are sometimes used by players as a hedge against their even-money outside bets. The maximum straight-up bet is typically the lowest of all bet types due to the high payout liability.
