How it works

Employees with system access generating fraudulent jackpot or payout tickets, then redeeming them at the cage for cash—often keeping amounts below tax-reporting thresholds. A slot floor person or supervisor uses stolen login credentials to print “Jackpot Override” tickets without actual machine wins. They present these tickets to the cage as if handling payouts for customers, collecting cash for themselves.

On the record

At Desert Diamond Casino in Tucson (2005-2007), slot floor employee Adam Vega used a supervisor’s login to print 585 fraudulent jackpot tickets just under $1,200 (the W-2G threshold). He redeemed them for $664,000 over two years before accounting noticed the pattern.
