RFID Card Swapping

How it works

A technique where cheaters secretly replace a standard deck with an RFID-enabled deck that can be read by concealed scanners, giving them knowledge of all cards in play. An accomplice working at the venue or a player with access swaps the casino’s regular cards for a special deck containing RFID tags. Hidden readers in bags, chip trays, or clothing scan the cards. The information is relayed to the cheater’s phone or earpiece.

In 2025, three players at JokerStars Poker Room in Houston were caught after a security review found Carlito had swapped regular cards for an RFID-enabled deck hidden in his backpack. A concealed card-reading device completed the system. The club banned the players and returned money to affected players.
