2.6 Exclusion Order (Singapore)

An exclusion order in Singapore is a legal prohibition issued by the NCPG that bars an individual from entering or remaining on casino premises or participating in casino gaming. There are four types: (1) Voluntary Self-Exclusion (initiated by the individual), (2) Family Exclusion Order (applied by family members — spouse, children, parents, siblings), (3) Third-Party Exclusion Order (applied by organizations or individuals concerned about problem gambling), and (4) Automatic Exclusion (applied to undischarged bankrupts and social assistance recipients). Breaching an exclusion order is a criminal offense punishable by a fine up to S$10,000 and/or imprisonment up to 12 months.

In practice

Family members may apply for exclusion if a person’s gambling has caused serious harm for at least three months. The minimum period before an exclusion can be revoked is 12 months.
