7. Chip Tray
Chips
A chip tray is the molded plastic or acrylic container built into each gaming table that holds the dealer’s working inventory of chips organized by denomination. Standard chip trays have slots or wells for each chip color/denomination, allowing dealers to quickly access chips for payouts while maintaining an organized inventory visible to surveillance and floor supervisors. The chip tray sits in a recessed area of the table layout directly in front of the dealer. The total value of chips in the tray constitutes the table’s “chip float” or “table inventory,” which is tracked through Table Inventory Slips filled out at the beginning and end of each shift.
In practice
Most chip trays accommodate 9-11 different chip denominations. High-limit tables may use extended trays or supplemental racks for additional chip storage.
