Any Seven (Big Red)

Craps

A one-roll proposition bet that the next roll of the dice will total seven. The bet pays 4:1 and carries a house edge of 16.67%, the highest of any standard craps bet. Due to the superstition among craps players that saying the word “seven” at the table brings bad luck, this bet is commonly referred to as “Big Red” (referencing the red coloring often used for the seven on proposition bet layouts). The Any Seven bet is handled by the stickman and is considered one of the worst bets in the casino from a player’s perspective. Surveillance rarely sees this bet from sophisticated players; its frequent use is an indicator of an uninformed player.

In practice

Some casinos color the “7” proposition in red on the layout; others avoid using the number entirely, relying on dealers to know the layout. Stickmen never call “seven” at the table; instead they use “it” or other euphemisms when a seven is rolled during a point cycle.
