A casino table game where each player competes against the house (not against other players). Players place an ante and receive five cards face-down; the dealer receives five cards with one face-up. Players may fold or make a “call” bet (double the ante) after seeing their cards. The dealer must qualify with Ace-King or better; if not, antes are paid and call bets push.

In practice

Caribbean Stud was one of the first successful casino poker games, invented in the 1980s. Most casinos offer an optional progressive jackpot side bet for royal flush or straight flush hands. The house edge is approximately 5.2% with optimal strategy.
