First Base
Blackjack
The betting position immediately to the dealer’s left, which receives cards first and acts first in each round of play. The player at first base is also the first to make decisions (hit, stand, double, etc.), making this position strategically significant for card counters who want to see other players’ cards before deciding.
In practice
“First base” is often avoided by card counters who prefer to act later in the round. Surveillance may note players who consistently seek specific seating positions.
