Double Down
Blackjack
A player option to double their original bet in exchange for receiving exactly one additional card. The player places an additional wager equal to their original bet and is dealt one card face-down or face-up, after which they must stand. Double down is typically allowed on the first two cards only, though some casinos allow doubling on any total or after splitting.
In practice
Basic strategy recommends doubling on 11 against any dealer upcard, on 10 against 2-9, and on 9 against 3-6. Surveillance should verify that dealers properly collect the additional wager and that players do not draw more than one card after doubling.
