Split
Blackjack
A player option to separate two cards of equal rank into two separate hands by placing an additional wager equal to the original bet. Each card becomes the first card of a new hand, and the player receives a second card on each. Most casinos allow splitting up to three or four hands, and some allow re-splitting or doubling after splitting.
In practice
Aces are typically restricted to one card each after splitting, and a blackjack on a split Ace usually pays only even money. Surveillance should verify that splits are only performed on identical ranks and that the additional wager matches the original.
