The commission charged by the casino on certain true-odds bets to maintain the house edge. In craps, vigorish is most commonly associated with buy bets and lay bets, where the casino charges a 5% commission on the bet amount (or on the win amount, depending on house policy) in exchange for paying true odds. The term “vig” or “juice” is borrowed from sports betting and bookmaking, where it refers to the bookmaker’s commission. Without the vig, buy and lay bets would have no house edge. The vig ensures the casino maintains its mathematical advantage on all wager types.
