Part II: Table Game Cheating · Dice & Craps Cheating Methods
Floaters / Float Dice
How it works
The opposite of weighted dice - floaters have material removed from one interior area to create a hollow space. The hollowed-out side is lighter, causing the heavier opposite side to land face down more consistently. The die weighs slightly less overall and “floats” slightly on one end. Some floaters are created by drilling into the die and filling the hole with a lighter material. The effect is the same as weighted dice - bias toward certain numbers - but achieved through weight reduction rather than addition.

On the record
Floaters have been used for centuries as an alternative to weighted dice when adding material was impractical.
