String Betting / Angle Shooting

How it works

A technique where a player places chips into the pot using multiple motions without verbal declaration, designed to gauge opponent reactions or appear to bet less than ultimately committed. While often a procedural violation rather than criminal fraud, it is a well-known angle shoot. A player pushes chips forward in increments, watching for opponent reactions after each motion. In some houses, only the first motion counts, but in others, the dealer may allow the full amount. Players exploit ambiguity to manipulate opponents or create disputes.
