8. Chip Rack (Rack)

Chips

A chip rack is a portable, lockable carrier used to transport gaming chips between the casino cage and gaming tables during fill and credit transactions. Racks are typically made of clear acrylic or durable plastic and designed to hold chips in organized rows by denomination. A standard chip rack holds approximately 100 chips per row, with multiple rows accommodating different denominations. When a table requires a fill, the cage cashier loads the requested denominations into a rack, completes the fill documentation, and the chip runner transports the rack to the gaming table. Racks provide security and accountability during chip movement across the casino floor.

In practice

Some casinos use color-coded racks to identify different transaction types. High-denomination racks may have additional locks or be transported with security escorts.
