Base Dealer

Dealers / Craps Crew

One of the two dealers at a craps table who stand on either side of the Boxman, facing the players. Each Base Dealer is responsible for one half of the table, handling cash-to-chip exchanges, placing and paying bets on their end of the layout, and marking the point with the “puck.” Base dealers work in close coordination with the Stickman, who instructs them on proposition bet payoffs. A standard craps crew includes two base dealers working while a third base dealer is on break.

In practice

Base dealers rotate positions within the crew – from one base to the other base, then to the stick, then to break – typically on a 20-minute rotation.
