Part III: Business & Regulation · Casino Marketing & Player Management
Electronic Gaming / EGM (Electronic Gaming Machine)
Market Segments
Casino gaming conducted on electronic or electromechanical devices, most commonly slot machines but also including electronic table games (ETGs), video poker, and electronic roulette. Electronic gaming is the dominant form of casino gaming in most Western markets, typically generating 60–80% of total gaming revenue in Las Vegas and Australian casinos. Electronic gaming offers superior tracking and player rating capabilities compared to live table games, enabling precise player valuation and automated marketing. In Macau, electronic gaming represents a smaller share of total GGR (typically under 10%) due to the cultural preference for table games, particularly baccarat.
In practice
The distinction between “electronic gaming” (slots and ETGs) and “live table games” is fundamental to revenue analysis, as the segments have very different margins, reinvestment requirements, and player demographics.
