A formal authorization granted by a regulatory authority permitting an entity to operate casino gaming activities. Gaming licenses are typically subject to stringent suitability requirements, including background investigations of applicants, shareholders, directors, and key employees; financial capacity demonstrations; operational plan approvals; and ongoing compliance obligations. Licenses may specify the types of games that can be offered, the number of gaming positions, the geographic area of operation, and conditions related to anti-money laundering, responsible gaming, and internal controls. Violation of license conditions can result in fines, suspension, or revocation.
