Seven Card Stud

Poker

A traditional poker variant where each player receives seven cards total — three face-down (hole cards) and four face-up — with betting rounds after each card. There are no community cards in Seven Card Stud. Players form their best five-card hand from their seven cards. The game was the most popular poker variant before Texas Hold’em’s rise.

In practice

Seven Card Stud uses antes and a “bring-in” (forced bet by the player showing the lowest upcard) instead of blinds. The game has declined in casino popularity but remains a staple in mixed games and home games. Seven Card Stud Hi-Lo (Eight or Better) is also commonly spread.
