Upcard
Blackjack
The dealer’s exposed card, dealt face-up so all players can see it. The upcard is the single most important piece of information for basic strategy decisions, as optimal play for every hand depends on the dealer’s upcard value. Common classifications include “bust card” (2-6) and “made hand” (7-Ace).
In practice
If the upcard is an Ace or ten-value, the dealer will check for blackjack before play continues. The upcard’s value fundamentally determines the house’s statistical advantage for that round.
