Bust Card

Baccarat

A derogatory term in baccarat for a face card or ten-value card (10, J, Q, K), which counts as zero in baccarat and often reduces a hand’s value. When these cards appear, they can turn a promising two-card total into a much weaker hand. Also commonly called “monkey” in Asian baccarat markets.

In practice

The term “monkey” is widely used in Macau and Singapore; some believe it derives from the word for zero or from the face/monkey imagery on court cards.
