False Hop Bet Payouts (Dealer Collusion)
How it works
The dealer pays a hop bet that was never actually placed, or pays it at an incorrect (higher) rate. The player and dealer are working together. The dealer might place a “marker” on a hop bet after the roll, creating the appearance that the bet was there all along. Alternatively, the dealer pays an easy hop bet at hard hop odds (15:1 instead of the correct lower rate, or 30:1 instead of 15:1). This scam exploits the complexity of hop bet payouts and the fast pace of craps.
