Cage (Main Cage / Cashier’s Cage)

Cash HandlingREPORTED

(1) The cage is the central financial operations hub of a casino, physically secured behind bars or glass, where all major cash and cash-equivalent transactions occur. Staffed by cage cashiers and supervised by cage managers or main bank cashiers, the cage handles chip sales and redemptions, check cashing, wire transfers, safekeeping deposits and withdrawals, marker issuance and payment, jackpot payouts, and foreign currency exchange. The cage maintains the casino’s working cash supply (the imprest bank) and interfaces directly with the count room and vault for movement of funds. Surveillance cameras cover all cage positions, and dual-control procedures apply to high-value transactions. (2) The cashier area where chips are redeemed for cash and where the casino's bankroll is stored. The central financial hub of the casino.

In practice

The cage is the casino’s equivalent of a bank branch. All cage transactions are logged with unique sequence numbers and employee identifiers for full audit trail capability. Universal casino operations; also called Cashier's Cage.
