Bristled Dice

How it works

One of the oldest forms of gaffed dice. A sharp protrusion such as a pin is inserted into the center pip (dot) of the 5-side (or sometimes another face). The pin sticks out just enough to catch on cloth or felt surfaces but not enough to be felt by fingers or noticed by casual inspection. Historically, coarse animal hair from horses or cows was used, hence the term “bristles.” When rolled on a soft surface, the bristle hooks into the felt and stops the die from tumbling further.
