Part II: Table Game Cheating · Dice & Craps Cheating Methods
Capped Dice / Liquid Capping
How it works
Dice where one side has been shaved down and the removed material replaced with a different substance that appears identical but has different physical properties. The cap material may be heavier (to create a loaded die effect), more elastic (to create a bigger bounce off the capped end), or have different thermal properties. Over time, wear and heat may cause the cap to separate slightly, revealing a seam. Liquid capping involves painting dice with a solution that dries to create the same elasticity differential. This is less effective because the substance can become sticky in players’ hands and picks up dirt.
Where it appears

On the record
Professional cheaters often carried complete sets of capped dice, switching them in and out depending on the betting situation.
