31. Credit Line
Credit & Markers
A credit line is the maximum amount of credit a casino extends to an approved player for the purpose of gambling. The credit line is established through a formal credit application process in which the player provides detailed financial information including bank statements, proof of income, and authorizes a credit check through Central Credit (the gaming industry’s specialized credit reporting service). The casino’s credit department evaluates the player’s financial capacity, gaming history, and repayment record to determine an appropriate credit limit. Players may draw markers against their credit line up to the approved limit. Credit lines are reviewed and adjusted periodically based on the player’s activity and payment history.
In practice
Casinos typically require credit lines to be backed by verified liquid assets in the player’s bank account. A common standard is maintaining a bank balance equal to at least the approved credit line.
