32. Credit Application

Credit & Markers

A credit application is the formal document completed by a casino patron requesting a gambling credit line. The application requires comprehensive personal and financial information including full name, address, date of birth, Social Security number, employment information, banking relationships with account numbers and balances, references, and authorization for the casino to conduct credit checks. The casino’s credit department reviews the application, verifies the information, checks the applicant’s credit history through Central Credit, and may contact the applicant’s bank to confirm balances. The credit application and all supporting documentation become part of the casino’s records and may be used in collection proceedings if the patron defaults on markers.

In practice

Credit applications contain sensitive personal information and must be stored securely. Most jurisdictions require credit applications to be retained for at least five years.
