40. Ticket Voucher (TITO Ticket)

TITO Systems

A ticket voucher is the physical paper slip printed by a TITO-enabled slot machine or electronic gaming device when a player cashes out. The voucher contains a barcode that encodes a unique validation number, the dollar amount, the date and time of issuance, the machine identification number, and an expiration date. The barcode allows the ticket to be read and validated by other machines, ticket redemption machines, or cage cashiers. Ticket vouchers are cash-equivalent instruments and must be handled with the same security as currency. Lost or stolen tickets can typically be cancelled if reported before redemption, as the TITO system tracks each ticket’s status in real-time.

In practice

TITO tickets typically have expiration dates of 60-90 days, after which they become void. Some jurisdictions require expired tickets to be escheated to the state as unclaimed property rather than retained by the casino.
