61. Count Team

Count Processes

The count team is the group of at least three employees responsible for performing the soft count process in the count room. The team includes a count room supervisor (a licensed/key employee) and at least two additional count team members. Team members must be independent of the pit department and the subsequent accountability of drop proceeds — they cannot be floor supervisors, dealers, or cage cashiers who handle the funds being counted. Count team members wear pocketless garments, follow hand-exposure protocols, and work under continuous surveillance monitoring. Team members are rotated on a routine basis to prevent collusion — typically, the same three individuals should not work together more than four days per week.

In practice

Count team members are among the most scrutinized employees in the casino. Their activities are recorded from multiple camera angles with audio. Any deviation from procedures is immediately reported.
