Rolling Chip

A system used primarily in VIP baccarat in Asian casinos (particularly Macau) whereby players purchase special non-negotiable chips that can only be used for wagering and cannot be cashed out directly. Rolling chips are designed to track player turnover (total amount wagered) for commission calculation purposes. The player purchases rolling chips with cash or via a marker, plays with them at the table, and any winnings are paid in regular (cashable) chips. The total rolling chip volume determines the commission payable to the gaming promoter and the rebate offered to the player. Rolling chip commission is the primary revenue mechanism for junket operators in Macau.
