Part II: Table Game Cheating · Tournaments
Tournament Chips Removed from Play
How it works
Tournament chips have no cash value at the cage. They still decide who is paid. Taking a chip out of play, off the table and out of the count, changes the tournament. The chip can come back later, in the same event, in front of a player who should not have it. This is not chip dumping, which is one player losing on purpose to another. The chip here leaves the game.

On the record
PokerNews, in February 2014, reported a casino statement: Chan Pelton was stripped of a World Series of Poker Circuit title after surveillance confirmed he had removed a 25,000 tournament chip from play. This is the casino’s account, carried by a news site. It is not a court judgment.
