1.13 Sands China / Las Vegas Sands

Macau — Corporate

Sands China is the Macau subsidiary of Las Vegas Sands Corp. (founded by Sheldon Adelson) and holds one of six gaming concessions. Sands China operates The Venetian Macao, The Londoner Macao (formerly Sands Cotai Central), The Parisian Macao, and Sands Macao. Las Vegas Sands opened the Sands Macao in 2004 and revolutionized the market by introducing the mass-market integrated resort model from Las Vegas. The Venetian Macao (2007) was the first mega-resort on Cotai and established the Cotai Strip as Macau’s new gaming and entertainment district.

In practice

Sheldon Adelson’s strategy of targeting the mass market rather than focusing solely on VIP players fundamentally changed Macau’s business model and reduced dependence on junket operators.
