24. Bankroll
Cash Handling
The bankroll is the total amount of cash maintained on the casino premises to support daily gaming operations, including funds in the vault, main bank, individual cashier drawers, and working cash supplies for various departments. The bankroll must be sufficient to cover all anticipated payouts, jackpot payments, chip redemptions, and operating expenses while maintaining adequate reserves for unexpected large transactions. Casino management determines optimal bankroll levels based on anticipated gaming volume, historical payout patterns, and regulatory requirements. The bankroll is separate from the casino’s general operating funds and is subject to strict accounting controls, regular audits, and often regulatory reporting requirements.
In practice
Bankroll levels are typically reviewed daily by casino accounting. Excess cash above operational requirements is usually deposited in the casino’s bank accounts through armored car services.
