Cash Handling

In casino operations, a cash register refers to the electronic point-of-sale system used at cage windows and other transaction points to record, process, and track all financial transactions. Casino cash register systems are integrated with the casino management system (CMS) and player tracking system, allowing real-time recording of chip sales, redemptions, check cashing, marker payments, and other transactions. Each transaction generates a unique sequential receipt number and is associated with the cashier’s employee ID, the window number, the time and date, and the patron information where required. The cash register system also enforces procedures such as supervisor overrides for transactions exceeding thresholds and mandatory identification capture for reportable transactions.

In practice

Casino cash register systems are far more complex than retail POS systems, as they must handle multiple transaction types, enforce regulatory compliance, and integrate with surveillance and audit systems.
