Back-End Comp / Back-End Rebate
Comps & Incentives
Complimentary services or cash rebates provided to a player after their gaming activity is complete, based on actual play or loss rather than expected play. Back-end comps are calculated and awarded at checkout or after trip completion, reducing the casino’s risk of over-comping. Back-end loss rebates—returning a percentage of documented losses—are particularly common in VIP and junket programs, especially in Asian markets. The percentage rebated must be mathematically derived to ensure it does not exceed the casino’s theoretical win expectation; arbitrary rebate percentages can destroy profitability.
In practice
Back-end loss rebates require careful mathematical modeling. Rebating a percentage of theoretical loss is generally preferred over rebating actual loss because it smooths variance and aligns with long-term expected value.
